Celebration of Life
May 13, 1946 - March 23, 2025
Brian Beugin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the age of 78 years.
Brian’s grandparents emigrated from France; his father was born in Canada, while his mother emigrated from Vienna to England and then to Canada.
Brian spent all his school years in the community of Bowness, and he attended the University of Calgary, he was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, in 1969.
Mary Ellen Bodell and Brian met through friends and were married in Calgary in 1971. Throughout their marriage, Mary Ellen practiced her profession as a teacher.
His engineering career was primarily in the oil and gas industry. He worked in the planning design, construction, and operation of pipelines, gas plants, pumping stations, and compressor stations. During the early part of his career, he also worked for a couple of years in municipal engineering, designing streets, roads, and water and sewer lines.
In the oil and gas sector, Brian was employed by Canadian Western Natural Gas and then by Dome Petroleum Ltd. During the last part of Brian’s career, he was an independent oil and gas facilities engineering consultant. Eventually operating his own small environmental engineering consulting company, specializing in atmospheric air quality calculations to meet government regulations, before retiring in 2014.
Together Brian and Mary Ellen raised Jeffrey John Beugin and Lisa Joanna Beugin. They lived in various places in south central Alberta eventually moving to Water Valley where their new home was built on their acreage lot. Life was busy for this couple until Mary Ellen suffered health problems and passed away on October 27, 2005.
Brian lived in the large home built for his family on their acreage until he downsized and relocated to Cochrane, AB, in 2010. During this time Brian joined some community groups to rebuild his life as a single man. A painful pursuit for him.
He joined the Cochrane Art Club and served on the executive, took art classes in watercolors, and joined a golf club, enjoying that sport in the outdoors. Brian also travelled to Australia and New Zealand since moving to Cochrane.
In 2011 at the Cochrane Art Club, he met a professional artist Rena Bierman who happened to have lost her husband in 2007. Rena and Brian shared the grief they felt after they lost their spouses and supported one another through it; becoming very close friends. After inquiring about Rena’s faith over a period of two years, Brian embraced his faith in Jesus.
He became a follower of Jesus on August 23, 2014. From that point on, Brian considered it his calling to be a follower of Jesus, and in doing so, enjoyed his faith walk by examining scripture and the fellowship of his brothers and sisters in Christ.
On August 17, 2019, Brian and Rena were married in Cochrane, AB, they moved to Calgary in the spring of 2022 and became participating members of Bow Valley Christian Church.
“During my illness, my heart, my mind, and my spirit have been at peace. Peace that is beyond description or understanding. That is the peace in personally knowing Jesus as my Saviour and knowing the hope that I have in spending eternity with Him.”
Brian is survived by his second wife Rena Bierman; his son Jeff Beugin and daughter Lisa Green; his grandchildren, Aidan, Kynan and Brooklyn Beugin, and Tyler and Taliah Green; his stepsons, Darren Bierman (Nicky), Jason Bierman, and Troy Bierman; and step-grandchildren, Vienna, Eden, Brooklyn, and Sydney Bierman; his brother Ron (Sue); sister-in-law Adeline Otto, brother-in-law Art Peters (Sandra); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
